On arrival at Windhoek International Airport we will meet our guide and transfer
through to Windhoek. After checking in
to our hotel we can then head out to get our first taste of the Namibian capital on
a 3hr City & Township Tour, exploring
with our local guide and learning all about the history and the people of Windhoek.
After our tour we will be dropped off
at our hotel, where we can relax by the pool or take an early dinner (own expense)
at any of the nearby excellent
restaurants, all within walking distance.

Day 2 : Little Kulala, Kulala Reserve, Namib Desert
+
We leave Windhoek at 9h00 to allow us enough time to get to our destination before
sunset. From Windhoek, we are
heading south west, first through the Khomas Hochland Mountains before descending
onto the plains of the Namib
Desert. The Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world, stretches some 2000 kms
along the west coast of Namibia,
with varying types of terrain, but it is here, in the Sossusvlei region that is
known for its enormous sand dunes, and
breathtaking photographic opportunities. On arrival at our lodge we can enjoy lunch
and some time to relax by the pool
before heading off for an afternoon activity on the private Kulala Reserve..
MEALS: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner + house drinks
Day 03 : Little Kulala, Kulala Reserve, Namib Desert
+
A very early start this morning for our Sossusvlei guided excursion. We aim to leave
our lodge well before sunrise to
ensure that we are one of the first to enter the national park. From Sesriem, we
drive further into the desert area,
where the early morning light provides excellent opportunities for photography. Once
we arrive in the 4x4 car park, we
can then explore this area on foot, with a walk around Dead Vlei and Sossusvlei, and
for the adventurous, a hike up
Big Daddy, the tallest dune in the region, offering breathtaking views of the sand
sea that is the Namib Desert. By
midday, we make our way back to camp where we can enjoy lunch and a rest during the
heat of the day before
enjoying a late afternoon activity on the private reserve.
MEALS: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner + house drinks
Day 04 : The Strand Hotel, Swakopmund
+
Our drive today takes us through to Swakopmund via the Gaub and Kuiseb passes. Our
first official stop is Solitaire, a
small but important outpost for tourists and locals alike, and a popular place to
stop and enjoy some more unusual
photographic opportunities. From Solitaire, we continue through the ever changing
desert landscapes before arriving in
Walvis Bay, the main harbour in Namibia. Here we have the opportunity to visit the
Walvis Bay Lagoon, a RAMSAR
listed wetland site, famous as the feeding ground for many bird species including
the Greater & Lesser Flamingos, as
well as the endemic Damara Tern amongst others making it an ornithologist paradise.
From Walvis Bay it’s just a short
drive to Swakopmund where we will spend the next two nights.
MEALS: BREAKFAST
Day 05 : The Strand Hotel, Swakopmund
+
Today is a free day, and the chance to explore at your own pace. For some, this will
mean joining a boat cruise in
Walvis Bay, where you have a good chance to see some seals and dolphins, for others,
this will mean a morning of
sandboarding before exploring the dunes on a quad bike, or enjoying a scenic flight
before skydiving, and for others, it
might be something a little more calm as a leisurely breakfast, a visit to the
aquarium before an afternoon scenic flight
along the Skeleton Coast.
Swakopmund is the adventure capital of Namibia and there is certainly something to
satisfy everyone. The town itself,
an unusual mix of German and Namibian culture offers a relaxed and walkable town
centre to enjoy at our own pace.
There are good restaurants in both towns, with seafood of course being a specialty.
MEALS: BREAKFAST
Day 06 : Mowani Mountain Camp, Damaraland
+
We start our day early as our drive takes us north east into Damaraland. Today, we
head north up to Henties Bay
where we can spot the most recent shipwreck to fall victim to the Benguela current,
before heading inland, across the
gravel plains for the Namib and north from Uis, with the chance to meet the local
people, the Himba, Damara and
Herero that call these areas home. We arrive late afternoon in Damaraland and have
the chance to settle in before
enjoying our first Damaraland sunset.
MEALS: BREAKFAST & Dinner
Day 07 : Twyfelfontein Adventure Camp, Damaraland
+
Another early start this morning as we head out on a guided drive through the
ephemeral river beds in search of the
elusive desert elephant that roams Damaraland. Namibia is one of just 2 countries in
the world (the other Mali) where
elephants have specially adapted to harsh desert environments and now roam freely
through the Damaraland and
Kaokoland region. We return to the lodge around midday for lunch before heading out
in the afternoon to visit
Twyfelfontein, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the world's largest
collection of San rock etchings in the
world with some being estimated at more than 5000 years old.
MEALS: BREAKFAST & Dinner
Day 08 : Anderssons At Ongava, outside Etosha National Park
+
After breakfast, we say goodbye to Damaraland and head north east for the private
Ongava Reserve, bordering Etosha
National Park, one of Southern Africa’s premier game parks and wildlife enthusiasts
paradise. We arrive at our lodge
around lunch time where we can settle in before heading out to explore the
impressive Ongava Reserve on an
afternoon game drive. The reserve itself stretches 30,000ha along the Etosha border
and is teeming with wildlife from
elephant, black & white rhino, giraffe to predators including lion, leopard and
cheetah.
MEALS: BREAKFAST, Lunch & Dinner
Day 09 : Anderssons At Ongava, outside Etosha National Park
+
An early breakfast this morning as we head into Etosha National Park for a morning
game drive. Etosha is famed for
the rich diversity of animals that congregate around the waterholes, so this morning
we drive from waterhole to
waterhole to see what we can spot.
We return to camp around midday for some well deserved lunch and rest before heading
out late afternoon to enjoy
more of the Ongava Reserve.
Game viewing at Anderssons doesn’t stop when we disembark our game viewer and we can
enjoy sitting by the camp
waterhole well into the night seeing what arrives for a late night drink.
MEALS: BREAKFAST, Lunch & Dinner
Day 10 : Omanda Lodge, Zannier Reserve, outside Windhoek
+
Today signals the end of our Etosha experience, but certainly not the end of our
safari. After an early morning breakfast
and a final game drive out of the park, we head back towards Windhoek mid morning.
If time allows we will stop in the
small town of Okahandja at one of Namibia’s largest wood carving markets, a chance
to support small local business
and collect some last minute souvenirs, before continuing on to the Zannier Reserve
where we can relax for our final
evening.
MEALS: Breakfast & Dinner + drinks
Day 11 : Departure
+
Depending on flight times today, we may have time to enjoy another optional activity
before being transferred to
Windhoek International Airport in time for our outbound flight. End of services.
